The Copa CONMEBOL is the 18th edition of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana or South America’s secondary club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL.
The winners of the 2019 Copa Sudamericana will earn the right to play against the winners of the 2019 Copa Libertadores in the 2020 ReCopa Sudamericana, and the winners of the 2019 J. League Cup in the 2020 J. League Cup / Copa Sudamericana Championship Final. They will automatically qualify for the 2020 Copa Libertadores group Stage.
On August 14 2018, CONMEBOL Decided that starting from the 2019 edition the final will be played as a single match and although it was originally stated that the final would be played in Lima, Peru at the Estadio Nacional .
Copa Sudamericana History :
In 1992 , the Copa CONMEBOL was an international football tournament created for South American clubs that did not qualify for thr Copa Libertadores and Supercopa Sudamericana . The tournament was discontinued in 1999 and replaced by the Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur. These tournament started in 1998 but were discontinued in 2001. A Pan American club cup competition was intended ,under the name of Copa Pan America but instead the Copa Sudamericana was introduced in 2002 as a single elimination tournament with the reigning Copa Mercosur, champion, San Lorenzo.
